A commemorative plaque was unveiled on Monday 6 October 2025 to honour British Romany families who lived for generations on Sound Common near Nantwich in Cheshire.
The campaign to mark this traditional atchin tan – stopping place – and the eviction of Romany families from it in the 1960s was led by Charmaine Abdul Karim, founder of the charity Pride of Romany. Charmaine’s mother was born on the Common.
