Interested in fairground and circus life in the 19th and early 20th century? Head to the website of the National Fairground and Circus Archive (NFCA) for its first online exhibition.
Called Sanger 200, this celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Sanger (1825-1911) which took place in 2025.
The NFCA holds a substantial collection of photographs and documents relating to Sanger and the history of his own circus enterprises and those of his brother John Sanger. There are many group shots of Sanger’s employees among them.
