Interested in fairground life? Live in or near Newcastle-under-Lyme? Then head to the Philip Astley Centre for an exhibition of photos of the Showland folk of North Staffordshire. It’s part of this year’s Heritage Open Days (HODS) festival and is open on Friday 11 September, Saturday 12 September, Thursday 17 September, Friday 18 September and Saturday 19 September 2026, from 11am until 4pm all days.

The Centre is named after the circus entrepreneur Philip Astley, the father of the modern circus, who was born in the town in 1742. There’s information there about him too.

The Philip Astley Centre is at 25 Merrial Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme ST5 2AE, Staffordshire.

Find out more about the exhibition at the HODS website here.
