Do the Doe family feature in your family tree? If so, head to the new book just published by the RTFHS. It’s The Family Tree of Francis Doe: From the 1720s to the early 20th century from the Southern Counties of England by RTFHS member Stephen Doe.

The Does are one of the lesser-known but nevertheless important Romany families of the Southern English Counties. Individuals of the name occasionally came to the attention of the Gypsiologists and so appeared from time to time in the pages of the Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society in the 19th and early 20th centuries. However, until now, little of their family history and social history has ever been formally and comprehensively researched and documented. Stephen now puts that to rights with what we believe to be the first study of its kind. It includes a number of photos of members of the Doe family, including this one of Elizabeth Doe, the wife of Luke Bull.
