FamilySearch has just launched digitised images of the Bishop’s Transcripts for Norfolk parishes, 1685-1941. They’re available to search by name and view free here.

We’ve already spotted some useful new finds for anyone interested the East Anglian Gray family. These include the baptisms of three of the children that Keomi/Kiomi Gray reputedly had with her partner Frederick Sandys, the Pre-Raphaelite painter, prior to her marriage to Charles Bonnett.

These three seem to have been baptised together in the parish of Barford, Norfolk, on 3 November 1889, with the parents’ names given as Frederick and Kiomi Gray, Travelling through Barford, Gipsey. They are Frederick Cyril, Madelene Mabel and Herbert.

However, what’s odd is that Frederick was born in 1865, Madelene in about 1868 and Herbert in about 1870, according to census returns. But there is no indication in the Bishop’s Transcripts that these were baptisms of adults rather than babies. Happy hunting!
