There’s a series of three short programmes currently running on BBC Radio 4 about a waxworks show that travelled to fairs in southern England in the 1840s.
It’s called Joe Smith and his Waxworks and it’s based on the 1896 memoirs of Joe’s nephew Bill Smith who travelled with the show. It includes interesting first-hand information about life on the fairground in the mid-19th century.
