Today the Government of the Republic of Ireland has launched a database of its historic birth, marriage and death certificates online for researchers to search and view free.
It includes certificates for all births that happened in Ireland before 1916, marriages from 75 years ago and earlier and deaths from 50 years ago and earlier. They can be viewed on screen or downloaded in pdf format. Where applicable, events that happened in the Irish counties that today form Northern Ireland are also included.
