Believed to be the first publication of its kind, the latest book from the RTFHS is a pioneering study of the works created by artists in the 19th century and earlier that portray British Gypsies and Travellers.
British Gypsy and Traveller History to 1900 Through Art by Robert Dawson brings together more than 150 black-and-white reproductions of paintings, drawings and engravings, discovered in museums, art galleries and private collections worldwide. To this, the author has added his analysis of the contents of the artworks so helping readers to see their favourite paintings and drawings in a new light and through that gain a better understanding of their own ancestors’ lives in the 19th century and earlier.
