Registration starts at 10.00am. Here’s the programme we have planned for you:
Snapshots in time
Family photos, Oxfordshire Romanies and musical traditions
Morning session from 10.30am onwards includes:
Images of War: Dating and Understanding Family Photographs 1914-1919
Jayne Shrimpton, the well-known photo detective, dress historian and author, will guide us through the analysis of First World War photos but concentrating on people in civilian dress rather than those in uniform, to help you in your family history research.
Presentation: Celebrating your Society’s 20th Anniversary
A short talk by Sharon Heppell on the history of the RTFHS, founded in 1994.
Photo dating session
Bring along and share your family photos of any period with Jayne Shrimpton and find out what clues they hold for you about people, places and events.
Lunch break from about 12.30pm to 1.45pm: your opportunity to meet and share family history information, photos and family trees with others.
Afternoon session from 1.45pm onwards includes:
1.45pm – the RTFHS AGM
A review of your Society’s year. Members who are joining us for the AGM alone, rather than for the whole day, are requested to arrive for a prompt start at 1.45pm.
Presentation: Gypsies in Headington Quarry
Keith Chandler introduces the community who lived and worked in the area in the 19th and early 20th centuries and regularly provided music for feasts, festivals and the Headington Quarry Morris Dancers.
Music: Gwilym Davies and friends
Gwilym plans to be with us, as do other RTFHS performers including Keith Chandler on the melodeon. If you play an instrument, sing or dance, please join in.
We look forward to seeing you there.
