The day’s presenters
Audrey Collins, Records Specialist – Family History, The National Archives, London
Audrey will tell us how to get the most from The 1939 Register in searching for our Gypsy/Traveller/Fairground ancestors. This is the virtual ‘census’ of the population of England and Wales at the outbreak of World War 2, now available via the Find My Past genealogical website.
Tony Dixon
We welcome again RTFHS member Tony Dixon who will talk about his experiences of restoring and decorating old vardos and carts, plus giving a demonstration of the skills involved. Expect some great music from Tony as well.
Geoff Boyce
RTFHS member Geoff Boyce will update us on his research into the life of Joe Beckett and the Boyces. Joe was Geoff’s grandfather’s first cousin and the longest reigning undefeated British Empire Heavyweight Boxing Champion of all time.
There will also be plenty of opportunities to browse the RTFHS bookstall, consult the Research Helpdesk and chat. And you’re welcome to join in with the music. So please bring along your instruments, stepping shoes and singing voices
Timetable for the day
- Registration from 10.00am to 10.30am
- Morning presentations: 10.30am to 11.30am
- The Society’s AGM will be held at 11.40am
- Lunch break: 12.00pm to 1.15pm. Please bring your own lunch with you. Coffee, tea and water will be available at the venue. There’s also a pub opposite Neville Hall as another eating option.
- Afternoon presentations: 1.15pm to 4.00pm

Coming by road?
The village lies between Maidenhead and Reading. It is easily accessible from the A4 and the M4 motorway. Neville Hall has its own car park to the rear.
Coming by public transport?
The nearest rail stations are Twyford, Maidenhead, Wokingham and Bracknell. We understand that there are bus services to the village from Maidenhead and Bracknell.
