RTFHS Society Day and AGM
May
13
Time: 10.30am until 4pm
Location: The Trinity Centre, Church Hill, Mill Street, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands B72 1TF
The RTFHS Society Day and AGM takes place in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, on Saturday 13 May 2017. It’s our first event in the Birmingham area so we hope to see many new faces from within our membership locally, as well as old friends. And remember: entry to RTFHS events is free for RTFHS members. There’s a £5.00 charge for non-members. And if you’re a non-member and decide to join the RTFHS on the day, then you’ll get a £5.00 discount on the annual membership fee of £12.00 (UK resident price).
And it’s an event you won’t want to miss. That’s because we’ll be joined by:
- FindMyPast’s genealogy expert Alex Cox who will be telling us about getting the best from historic online newspapers for family history research
- Steven Knight, the creator of the BBC drama series Peaky Blinders who will be talking about the life of a travelling blacksmith and his Romany customers in Warwickshire, the Black Country and Wiltshire
- Ted Rudge, local historian and author, who will introduce us to the history of the Romany Gypsy families who made Black Patch their home in times past. Their surnames included Smith, Loveridge, Badger, Clayton, Scarret, Owen, Hill, Davies and Gorman
Plus there will be:
- The RTFHS bookstall
- Research help desk
- Displays about local Romany families researched by RTFHS member and author Josie Tombs
- And plenty of chances to chat and share your family history research with other RTFHS members and friends
