A new BBC TV series launched this week called A Very British History and it includes a programme about British Romany Gypsies, introduced and narrated by the author and journalist Damian Le Bas.
The programme focuses mainly on the mid-20th century history of Romany communities in the English Home Counties and at modern-day Appleby Fair but includes many fascinating old films, still photos and interviews with family members in their vardos, gathered over the past 60 years. RTFHS member Thomas Acton takes part in the programme.
It was first shown on BBC 1 on 10 December 2018 at 10.50pm but can be viewed online via BBC iPlayer for 28 days.
