Time: Doors open 7.00pm for 7.30pm start, UK time
Location: Online event

Do you have old photos in your family album of people you don’t know? Join other RTFHS members on Thursday 2 October 2025 at 7.30pm UK time for a free online talk by Zoom that could help to spot details in the photos to work out when they may have been taken and why.

Your expert guide: Steve Gill
Our speaker Steve Gill has enjoyed a 55-year career in professional photographic services and photo restoration. He says: “One of the most frequent questions I’m asked is: ‘When was it taken?’ More often than not, people haven’t truly looked at the photograph itself – they’ve only seen the face of a loved one. Many books on dating old photographs overlook the photograph’s detail, presenting small, often unrestored images that make it hard to see what’s really there. As a photo restorer, I use my skills to bring those hidden details to light, revealing just how much information these old images can hold.”

Be at the talk and you could win too!
Steve Gill has written a number of books about photo dating. Attend this talk live and you could win this two-volume set in our prize draw.

Dating By Design 1840-1915 and Dating By Design Volume 2: Twentieth Century are both packed with hundreds of old family photos plus dating info and tips from Steve. The books are published by the Family History Federation and retail at £19.95 each. The names of those at the meeting will go into the prize draw at the end of the talk and one lucky winner will be picked at random.

How to join the meeting
This meeting is exclusively for RTFHS members. Invitations will be sent by email to all RTFHS members who are in the Romany Routes Email Group about a week before 2 October 2025. Doors open at 7.00pm UK time and the talk will start at 7.30pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
