Come and meet the RTFHS on Sunday 9 July when we take part in the annual Birmingham Romany Memorial event in Smethwick. This Open Day takes place in the garden of the Foundry Tavern in Foundry Lane B66 2LL and celebrates the history of the Romany families who made their home in the nearby Black Patch community in times past. We will be selling our publications and look forward to hearing about your Romany, Traveller and Fairground ancestors.

And we hear that Michael Chaplin, son of film giant Charlie Chaplin, may be present – to be confirmed by the organisers. That’s because there’s a belief that Charlie was born on the Black Patch and he always acknowledged that he had Romany blood on his mother’s side.

See you there!
