The BBC 2 TV series Wartime Farm – which shows how a farm in Hampshire operated during the Second World War – has recently been repeated on the BBC and the episodes are now available to watch again on the BBC’s iPlayer website.

We hear that Episode 7 of the series deals with the importance of Gypsies, particularly Gypsy women, to British agriculture during WW2 when they replaced male farm workers who had joined the Armed Services. It also mentions the Gypsy men who gone into the Services, leaving their womenfolk to work and often spend many months living on the farms with their families and sometimes overwintering there. The episode can be watched here until 28 December 2017.
