Did your Fairground people serve in World War 1? If so, head to Devon from March 2018 onwards to see a new exhibition at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre in Lifton. It commemorates the significant role played by travelling Showmen and women during the Great War (1914-1918), not only by serving in the Armed Forces but also by continuing to travel and provide the nation with entertainment under severe war-time constraints.

A 36-page publication called The Showmen’s War has been published by the Centre to accompany the exhibition. It contains many photos of Showfolk and their rides plus a Role of Honour of the names of Showmen who died in WW1, together with their date and place of death and Army regiment. It’s available to order at £5.00 a copy from the Fairground Heritage Centre website. And you can also find out more about the exhibition at the same site.
