“Unearthed: Gypsy and Traveller heritage in Poole” is a current exhibition at the Museum in Poole, Dorset, on until 5 September 2021.

It looks at the lives of the Gypsy and Traveller families who lived in the Poole area in past times, complete with old photos and family histories gathered by Dorset Gypsy poet Raymond Wills in partnership with the Dorset Gypsy organisation, Kushti Bok.

The meanings of the names of some of their favourite camping places – with intriguing names such as Heavenly Bottom and Monkey’s Hump – are also revealed.

Our thanks to RTFHS member Chrissie Allen for alerting us to the exhibition.
